Educational Training Information

Below is a “menu” of trainings that we typically present, with the option to create a training that meets your needs. 

1. Getting to Know MenHealing: Programs and Resources

Description: MenHealing offers resources and programs for male survivors, their partners, and providers. This is an opportunity to learn about these resources for yourself and others in need. 

Goals:

  • To learn about MenHealing’s mission to help men survivors of sexual harm and their partners
  • To learn about MenHealing’s programs and resources 
  • To use MenHealing as a resource

2. It Is Done to Men: Understanding and Providing Support to Men Who Experience Sexual Harm

Research shows that 1 in 6 men will experience sexual harm in childhood or adulthood and 1 in 10 rape victims are men, however these statistics are likely low. This training will explore the dynamics of sexual harm done to men, barriers to disclosure, explore the contexts in which sexual harm of men occurs from childhood sexual abuse to adult sexual assault and rape, and build strategies to support men.

Goals:

  • Participants will learn the facts and dynamics of sexual harm done to men as well as explore personal bias about men being victims of sexual harm in order to dismantle barriers to support.
  • Learn skills to appropriately support men survivors of sexual harm
  • Participants will build strategies to create an environment where men survivors can feel comfortable asking for support and disclosing experiences of sexual harm. 
  • Participants will learn about MenHealing as a resource

3. Reframing Trauma for Men Survivors of Sexual Harm

Description: This training is designed to help to understand and identify the range of impacts of sexual harm on men survivors and to reframe the paradigm for intervention and healing

Goals: 

  • Identify two life-long impacts of sexual harm against men
  • Describe complex trauma as it pertains to survivors who are men 

Time: 90min

4. “Safety” for Men Survivors of Sexual Harm

Description: This training is designed to help men survivors to develop their own sense of “safety” to support their healing process

Goals: 

  • Participants will recognize that “safety” is not the same for everyone
  • Participants will learn that including survivors in developing what they need for “Safety ” enhances their healing process. 
  • Participants will learn tools for active engagement in co-creating “Safety for their survivor develop what they need to be able to engage in their healing process

5. Trauma Informed Peer Support Groups for Male Survivors: Providing a Path to Long-Term Recovery

Description: One and four men experience sexual harm over their lifetime. Peer support groups offer a unique pathway to recovery for male survivors by decreasing specific barriers to help seeking and targeting core issues specific to many male survivors. This session will give an overview of MenHealing’s Support Groups Project. It will demonstrate how to incorporate trauma informed principles when developing structure and curriculum for male survivor peer support groups. It will highlight how peer support groups provide unique benefits and pathway to recovery for men. Through personal testimony, it will show the reciprocal healing power of peer support and how this contributes to resilience and long-term recovery.   

Goals:

  • Participants will be able to explain how peer support groups offer unique benefits for men recovering from sexual harm. 
  • Participants will Learn how to incorporate trauma-informed principles into structured peer support groups that address issues specific to male survivors. 
  • Participants will be able to name three ways peer leadership promotes resilience and provides a path to long term recovery for male survivors.

6. Putting the Mask on First: Exploring tools to Support Partners of Survivors of Sexual Harm from MenHealing’s Partner Peer Support Group Model

Description: Learn tools to support partners of sexual harm survivors using the MenHealing Peer Support Group model. The goal for the MenHealing Partner Peer Support Groups is to provide the partner with support and understanding about how they are impacted by the sexual harm done to their loved one. In this group the partner is the focus. Partners have supported the survivor in their life and now it’s time for the partner to get the support they need. Topics of the group include: coping skills, understanding the impacts and reactions of sexual harm on you as the partner, self-care, grief and loss, healing, loving a survivor, intimacy, and self-compassion.  The hope for this group is to reduce isolation for partners by engaging in healing activities and becoming part of a community.

Goals: 

  • Understand how being in a relationship with a survivor of sexual harm can impact partners 
  • Explore topics to address when working to reduce the traumatic impacts of sexual harm on partners
  • Identify phases of healing for partners of survivors of sexual harm

Time: 90min

NOTE: All of the above mentioned topics can be combined in various ways for longer sessions or multi-session, or a full day training, to meet your training needs. 

Training Payment information

A training conducted by our MenHealing trainers is $200 per hour  and payment is to include training and preparation time. Preparation time on average is double the amount of training time. For example, a 90 minute training will include three hours of preparation time for a total of $900. Willingness to be flexible to accommodate specific needs and/or requirements.
