Resources for Male Survivors

Healing Outreach to Men Everywhere

H.O.M.E. is a workbook that was originally designed for placement on the tablets of incarcerated survivors. We are pleased to announce that a print version of the book is now available for friends and families, to help them better understand the impact of sexual trauma on the lives of men, and to inspire hope for healing. The book is an invitation for the reader to come HOME to himself and HOME to a community of other men who are healing from sexual trauma. It is beautifully illustrated, and highly accessible. It is interactive both as an eBook and as a print book, containing 21 video and audio files that can directly accessed through the eBook version, and accessed through QR codes built into the pages of the print version.

H.O.M.E. is currently available in 1421 Correctional Facilities in 46 states in the U.S., accessible free of charge on the electronic tables of over 1,000,000 incarcerated individuals. The print version of H.O.M.E. is now available for purchase directly from MenHealing’s portal (below), as well as through other vendors such as Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

Project History

This initiative began in September of 2021 when an alumnus from the Weekends of Recovery inspired us to provide educational and healing resources to the large population of men who are serving time behind bars and living with an unprocessed history of sexual trauma. We didn’t know at the outset that over 56% of incarcerated men have a history of sexual assault with little to no educational materials or support for healing for the survivors who are living behind bars. This knowledge provided even greater motivation for us to create a workbook that would be full of information about the psychological impact of sexual trauma as well provide many tools for healing.

We created a team of folks with psychological, emotional, and somatic expertise, a graphic artist, community experts who work regularly with incarcerated men, as well as returning citizens who are also survivors.

As a team we wrote, edited, collaborated, and leaned on each other’s experience and perspective to create a workbook that can be useful to men on the inside, friends and family members of incarcerated survivors, returning citizens, and to professionals who work with incarcerated survivors.

This groundbreaking project was four years in the making, developed entirely without government or foundation grants. Instead, MenHealing strategically invested General Operating Funds to support key staff and dedicated volunteers in designing this innovative resource. 100% of these funds come from individual donors like YOU.

Project Goals

  • to provide information, insight, and hope for healing to some of our most vulnerable citizens
  • to provide the eBook as a course that can be taken by incarcerated men, and a course that can be passed and presented to probation officers and parole boards as evidence of time spent on rehabilitation
  • to provide print and electronic versions of the eBook that can be purchased on line by friends and families of incarcerated individuals to expand awareness of the impact of sexual assault on boys and men
  • to provide a training tool for case managers, therapists and prison staff to better understand and interact with this large population of incarcerated survivors
  • to create a second edition of the book for Mental Health centers, Rape Crisis centers and the general public that can be distributed for learning or as a training manual for staff for the treatment of male sexual trauma
