Project Description

H.O.M.E. is a collaborative effort between staff and alumni from MenHealing and experts in the community who work with incarcerated men.

We began this initiative in September of 2021 when an alumnus from the Weekends of Recovery inspired us to provide educational and healing resources to the large population of men who are serving time behind bars and living with an unprocessed history of sexual assault.

Healing Outreach to Men Everywhere is designed as an invitation for the reader to come home to himself and home to a community of other men who are healing from sexual trauma. The eBook is a 154 page, beautifully illustrated, highly accessible, interactive eBook that includes 21 video and audio files. It is currently available, free of charge, on the tablets of over 1,000,000 incarcerated individuals in 46 states in the US.

The eBook allows user feedback and evaluation, which will enable us to monitor the impact of H.O.M.E within institutions and beyond institutional walls, so that we can revise and update our materials accordingly.

Our goals are:

  • to provide information, insight, and hope for healing to some of our most vulnerable citizens
  • to provide the eBook as a course that can be taken by incarcerated men, and a course that can be passed, to provide credit toward early release or application to probation
  • to provide print and electronic versions of the eBook that can be purchased on line by friends and families of incarcerated individuals to expand awareness of the impact of sexual assault on boys and men
  • to create a second edition of the book for Mental Health centers, Rape Crisis centers and the general public that can be distributed for learning or as a training manual for staff for the treatment of male sexual trauma

We welcome feedback from users outside correctional facilities who have purchased H.O.M.E. in print or electronic format.

This groundbreaking project was two years in the making, developed entirely without government or foundation grants. Instead, MenHealing strategically invested General Operating Funds to support key staff and dedicated volunteers in designing this innovative resource. 100% of these funds come from individual donors like YOU.

The book is now available in print, making it more accessible to providers and the general public. This self-published edition broadens H.O.M.E.’s reach and will generate a sustainable funding stream—allowing us to support even more men on their healing journeys. The soft cover workbook includes pages for journaling and responding to questionnaires, with access to the online video and audio files.

Sandi Forti

PhD, PC

Sandi is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Columbus, Ohio, and has been a facilitator for the Weekends of Recovery for MenHealing since 2006 and Taking Back Ourselves since 2014.

Sandi sees herself as providing a context within which trauma can be understood as part of the landscape of the soul, and healing can lay the foundation for the development and expression of the authentic self. She has worked for many years with victims and perpetrators of sexual abuse and with families who struggle to love and heal both. She is versed in working with the patterns of thinking and behavior that grow out of the effort to cope with abuse, such as depression, dissociation, use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs, etc.

Her interests in archetypal psychology, body awareness, and the healing power of meditation have added breadth and depth to her work with individuals who are seeking to heal from past traumas and who desire new ground for a relationship with the present.
