MenHealing Writes Op-Ed for San Diego Union-Tribune

We’re honored & excited to announce our op-ed about the Menendez brothers, written by Executive Director Jim Struve and Board Members Debra Warner and Michael Munson, was published by the The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Opinion: The Menendez Case Is a Call for Awareness of and Action Against Abuse

This piece was created in response to the upcoming resentencing hearing and trending Netflix show “Monsters.” In the article, our Board Members call upon the need for societal shifts and personal changes to create supportive environments for men who are survivors of sexual harm.

We MUST recognize that many boys and men are in need of healing resources from sexual violence, just as we have understood the complicated repercussions of physical and sexual violence against girls and women.

MenHealing’s purpose is rooted in the belief that men and their loved ones can heal through community; Men who are survivors of sexual harm are frequently isolated and/or invisible. Through our work, we seek to help male survivors become seen while engaging their loved ones in services that support their needs.”

While recording a future episode of our Just Healing Podcast, Board Member Dr. Debra Warner spoke about the complexities of the Menendez case and trial with two guests who were in the same incarceration setting as the brothers.
