“Before I went to a Weekend of Recovery, I was sort of dead inside—that’s how I would always describe my pain. Since the Weekend of Recovery, I’ve been thriving.”

Roger Stratton joined our community after watching the Oprah Winfrey Show feature on male survivors. He attended a Weekend of Recovery in 2009 and 2011, and has since created his own support groups in pursuit of ongoing connection with other men who have experienced sexual harm. We’re grateful for Roger’s dedication to help folks find healing through community-building!

Sam’s Pick: Drowning In The Open by Dxtr Spits.

“I knew Dxtr was a gifted artist from his work with us at Ripple Effect 2024, but this latest album, featuring the final recorded words of legendary poet Nikki Giovanni, is nothing short of extraordinary.

Storytelling and spoken word directly address the nuances of a silent epidemic: 100 men dying by suicide in America every day, with millions more struggling in isolation.”

—Sam Katz, MenHealing Director of Engagement

Founded by Weekend of Recovery alumni Das Chapin and Paul Stretch, the Pacific Northwest Community Survivors Network (PNWCSN) brings healing to survivors of sexual harm in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

Last year, we partnered with PNWCSN to successfully organize & host a WOR for their local survivor community. PNWCSN was 100% responsible for raising sponsorship funding, allowing regional residents financial aid. They plan to offer more services to survivors during 2026 and beyond, including a retreat for transgender survivors this fall (email Das Chapin if interested!)

We are deeply grateful to the PNWCSN planning committee—Paul, Das, Declan, Michele, and Kristin—for their leadership, innovation, and compassion for survivors in their community.

Our sold-out, gender-inclusive virtual Kintsugi workshop for survivors last month (“Stronger Together”) was beautiful! Four trauma-informed facilitators from MenHealing and Saprea collaborated to share the Japanese art of Kintsugi—repairing broken pottery with gold—as a tool for healing from trauma. We hope to host more opportunities like this soon!

One of the myths male survivors face is that their abuser must have been male for sexual abuse to count, or even be possible. Understanding the truth is crucial to addressing—and healing—the trauma male survivors experience:

55% of sexual abuse of boys is committed by women.

Women who sexually abused boys were nearly 4x more likely than men to be parents or guardians, including teachers, of the male survivor.

In one research study, 70% of males abused by women reported not initially recognizing the contact as sexual violation.
