This Month at MenHealing

Want to bring a Weekend of Recovery to your local community?

Last month, we partnered with the Pacific Northwest Community Survivor Network (PNWCSN) for a successful Level 1 Weekend of Recovery at the beautiful Menucha Retreat Center outside Portland, OR. It was a truly special weekend, and made possible by local alumni and community partners who worked together with the MenHealing team.

Prior to the Menucha WOR, three MenHealing staff conducted a half-day training, also in Portland. We were delighted that a sizable number of attendees for Hope and Healing for Men Who Have Experienced Sexual Harm were lawyers and paralegals.

Want to help men in your community heal from sexual harm? We would love to do more local collaborations like this. Contact us HERE to get started.

A longtime MenHealing community member, Michael Guinn is an accomplished poet, performer, and mental-health advocate recognized for his uncompromising authenticity and masterful command of language. His work fuses personal truth with social impact, using refined craft and emotional precision to illuminate lived experience. His piece “HERE I AM” was written and performed for MenHealing’s recent fundraising event, Ripple Effect.

Historically, boys and men have been treated as invisible victims of sexual harm. The United States Bureau of Justice Statistics did not even officially collect data about sexual harm among men until January 2013 (12 years ago!).

Since that shift, the picture has become impossible to ignore. A 2015 national survey found that nearly one in four men in the U.S. (24.8%, or roughly 27.6 million individuals) have experienced some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetime.

This emerging data underscores what survivors and advocates have known for decades: providing accessible, specialized services for male survivors is not optional. It is urgent, essential, and long overdue.

FORGE is a national nonprofit that builds strength and resilience in transgender communities, including trans and nonbinary survivors of sexual harm. MenHealing and FORGE have maintained a long-standing alliance. Michael Munson (FORGE Executive Director) has been an important member of MenHealing’s Board since 2018. Our organizations collaborated in the production of the 2022 Voices of Healing: Trans & Non-Binary Survivors SPEAK OUT webinar.  Michael is also one of the hosts for our current Just Healing podcasts.

For many survivors, the holidays are an especially challenging time. Please be extra gentle with yourselves this holiday season. Remember to set healthy boundaries with yourself and your loved ones, eat nourishing foods, rest, and use embodied practices to keep yourself grounded.

A special THANK YOU to Peitao Zhu for several years of service as Manager for our Program Evaluation Project. We regret that personal concerns require him to step aside from his staff duties. It has been an honor to have him as part of our MenHealing staff family.

P.S.  – It’s not too late to join our movement to provide community and healing for EVERY survivor of sexual trauma.

If you are not already a monthly recurring donor, we invite you to consider joining our Monthly Giving Circle. Becoming a monthly recurring donor at any amount is a simple way YOU can help MenHealing as we continue to reach more men who have experienced sexual harm and their loved ones. Each donation – no matter the amount – contributes to the RIPPLE EFFECT for INSPIRING HOPE / CHANGING LIVES.
