WORKSHOP: Hope and Healing for Men Who Have Experienced Sexual Harm

This 3-hour workshop is intended for providers (mental & physical health care, legal, and service agencies) who work with men and/or men who have experienced sexual harm.

October 16, 2025
Taborspace
5441 SE Belmont St.,
Portland, Oregon

Recent research indicates boys and men have a 1 in 6 probability of experiencing sexual harm during their lifespan; very close to the 1 in 4 probability for girls and women. However, healing resources remain limited and less accessible for boys and men than services for girls and women. This workshop will provide an overview of impact, assessment, and effective support for men who have experienced sexual harm. Drawing on many years of experience working with men and male-identified survivors the presenters will focus on hope and healing for men who are survivors.

This workshop will include didactic presentation and case examples, somatic-based interactions, videos, and discussion. Presenters will focus on contextual factors that impact men who are survivors of sexual harm, reasons men avoid or minimize disclosure of sexual harm, and ways to empower men to seek hope and healing. Participants will expand their awareness of biases about men as survivors, acquire skills for creating safe environments for men to heal, and learn about resources that allow male survivors to end isolation and find connection and community with other men. Attention will also be given to the importance of resources for loved ones and allies.

Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to articulate 2-3 emotional and/or behavioral indicators associated with men who are survivors of sexual harm
  • Participants will be able to articulate 2 -3 effective strategies for assessment and engagement of men who are survivors of sexual harm
  • Participants will be able to articulate 2-3 successful tools for instilling hope, healing, and empowerment for men who are survivors of sexual harm
  • Participants will be able to articulate 2-3 basic somatic healing techniques that are useful tools to help men to heal

Certificate of Attendance and 3 Cultural Competency CEUs will be available for all attendees.
