Survivors of sexual abuse find many ways to process their experience as they heal. One common medium is art. This painting is the result of the collaboration of two male survivors.  The collaboration contributed to the healing of both men.  As you reflect on the image see how it speaks to you.  In the artists conception the little boy is holding all those negative messages we internalize. The adult man brings the message, “You are love” a counter to the negative messages.  This is a visual reminder of our path to healing where we replace the negative messages the little boy in us carries with powerful positive ones. 

The man who painted the picture has gone on to illustrate children’s books opening a new world for him and his art. 

The example of these two men, working together reminds us how helpful it is to connect with others on the healing journey.  We are much stronger together.

Consider that you hold love within you. It is a part of your basic nature. You have the power to love yourself, the parts which are hurt and afraid. You have to ability to share that love with others. You are love!
